017 Giving Up vs Letting Go
ByAs life’s inevitable choices knock at our door it’s important to make a distinction between reacting to the persistent pecking or placing the welcome mat out. It’s all about knowing the difference between giving up and letting go.
Giving up…is rooted in frustration
Letting go…is lifted by release.
Giving up…is couched in “I don’t know how.”
Letting go…is vocalized with knowledge and will.
Giving up…is a disinterest in the pursuit.
Letting go…is recognizing it’s not part of the journery.
Giving up…means something isn’t happening fast enough.
Letting go…means it’s not a good use of time and energy.
Giving up…is a reaction.
Letting go…is a creation.
Giving up…is indifference.
Letting go…is being the difference.
Giving up…feels weighted and burdened.
Letting go…feels lightened and enlightening.
Giving up…means it’s not worth the time, money or energy.
Letting go…means the investment already proved it’s worth.
Giving up…is the accountability for saying “yes.”
Letting go…is caring enough to say “no.”
Well said. I can see the differences between the two daily. 🙂
Thanks Kip. What other differences do you see between the two?
It’s a little difficult for me to quantify, but I’ll give it a shot. Giving up is defeat, being bested by the task or not firm enough in your convictions. It is also something that is, quite often, regretted in later life. Letting go is a positive choice to admit that whatever you’ve been holding onto isn’t worthy of further commitment and acknowledging the negative effects of holding onto it. I don’t know if that makes a lot of sense to anyone but me 🙂
Kip, for me you nailed it on the head. Letting go is empowerment of choice and definitely the space I want to grow from 🙂
